5 Signs You Should Clean Your Air Ducts

5 Signs You Should Clean Your Air Ducts

Why You Should Keep Your Air Ducts Clean

Cleaning your air ducts is an important task that needs done but not very often. If you are wondering if it is time to clean your are ducts but are not sure then there are a few ways to tell.

There are five signs to look for that will tell you that your air ducts need cleaned. The first thing to look for are signs of mold and or mildew. Mold and mildew are not a healthy thing to have in your home. Mold and Mildew can lead to many problems from ruining the interior of your home to health problems. If you find mold or mildew in your home attack the problem IMMEDIATELY for safety issues. Getting rid of the problem quickly will also save on the wallet later with either home repair bills or doctor bills. Either way mold and mildew can turn into an expensive problem.

Unexplained Respiratory Problems

Another sign is unexplained respiratory problems. If you or anyone in your family is having issues breathing, coughing, or any other respiratory issue this could possibly be where the problem came from. Air ducts carry the cold and hot air through your home or office and if they get a build of too much dust or mold then the air being forced through the ducts are pushing that all out into the air everyone is breathing without even know it.

Keeping an Eye Out

Another thing to look for are rodents or insects inside your ducts. If you have been seeing some creepy crawlies everywhere or rodents appearing out of nowhere it is a possibility they are hiding in your duct work. Check your duct work periodically for signs of pesky bugs or rodents and handle issue accordingly.

Dust and Debris

Also if you notice dust or debris coming out of your vents that is another sign your duct work needs cleaned. Keep an eye on your vents when the heat or air conditioning kicks on and you see stuff blow out time to get them cleaned. Just remember whatever is blown out of your vents is going in the air and everyone is breathing it is.

If you are having a problem with your unit not working properly or as well as it should, check your duct work. When air ducts are dirty and stopped up it will not allow the air to pump through correctly and will make your furnace or air condition work harder than it should work to heat your house up or cool your house down.

Contaminants in your duct work are not good for people's health. How systems word are first the air from inside is take in through the different vents throughout the building. The pollutants then get caught in all the air being passed through. The air then goes in through the heating system or cooling system depending on which one is being used. The air then gets released back into the building as warm or cold air. The same air gets circulated through the house five to seven times a day on average.

As you can see having clean air ducts has many benefits from better performance of equipment to lower health issues.
