Hail can cause a lot of damage to your home. The damage hail can cause is things such as holes in your shingles, shorten the life of your shingles, and cause loss of granules from your shingles. If there are holes in your shingles, these can cause leaks into the interior of your home leading to the interior damage of ceilings, walls, and other items. Leaks can also let in unwanted moisture which can lead to mold and mildew in your home.

Perform a Visual Assessment

If you experienced a hail storm or hail damage there are steps you should take to deal with the hail damage in a proper manner. First of all after the storm has passed and it is safe to go outside check for any dents that could have been made. Do not just check your roof make sure to check your siding and gutters as well. Next, check for granules on your shingles. Granules may collect around your downspout area. Also check for any moisture around things like leaks in you ceilings or water spots or stains.

Call the Professionals

Climbing out on your roof can be very dangerous especially when not sure what type of damage may have occurred so call for a professional for a free roof inspection. Most places will give you a free roofing inspection and then work with your home owners insurance to make sure the damage is taken care of properly.

Contact Insurance

Last thing you need to do is call your home owners insurance company and file a claim for the damage that was cause. This should all be done in a timely manner you do not want to wait too long before any more damage occurs. Take plenty of photographs of all of your damage for your insurance company and your proof of what happened. This will help your insurance company process your claim faster and more efficiently.
