A significant number of hospital emergency room admissions are a result of a slip and fall. 25% of all hospital admissions on a yearly basis in the US are a result of a fall. If that were not concerning enough an unimaginable 40% of nursing home admissions involve a home fall.

Health Effects of Falling

This statistic is a real eye opener; the death rate in 2009 as a result of a fall was 24% higher for men than for women. On the other hand women are 3 times more likely to have a hip fracture as a result of a fall than men. The average cost of care for a fall injury in 2009 was $19,440. As heart breaking as all these statistics may be, there is a solution and injury as a result of a bathroom fall can be prevented. Take action to prevent a slippery situation for yourself or a loved one. Make your home and bathroom safer by preventing tripping hazards. Taking a few easy steps can prevent the unthinkable.

Tips for Increasing the Safety of a Bathroom

Make sure there is adequate lighting and grab bars inside the shower or tub area and next to toilets. Take the time to ad slip resistant and non slip flooring to bathroom and shower areas. Consider the purchase of a therapeutic walk in bathtub or shower that has a built in or added seat. These steps can add peace of mind and prevent injury.
