How to Fix Clogged Bathtub Drain
Remove The Drain Cover
When you are looking to remove the clog, you have to begin by taking off the drain cover. All drain covers are a bit different, but most simply can be lifted right out of the drain. However, if yours is screwed in, you may need a screwdriver to remove it properly.
Clear The Clog
Once you have removed the drain cover, you can see what is causing the clog. You should be careful and remove any hair, soap or other debris that is evident. In most cases, what you remove is likely the source of the clog, but this is not always true.
Wire Hanger Clog Remover
If simply removing hair or soap from the top of the drain did not do the trick, you might have to take the wire coat hanger approach. All you have to do is untwist the wire hanger and create an elongated wire that you can insert into the bathtub drain to remove any debris. This wire hanger can be used to push any debris or clog through the drain. After you are finished, check and see how well your tub is draining now.
If you do not want to have to deal with removing the drain or if the above steps did not work successfully, you can give chemical clog remover a try. There are a wide variety of chemical clog removers available for purchase at the store. Simply choose one and follow the directions on the label, bust always use caution when dealing with chemicals and wear safety equipment including goggles and gloves.
