How to Fix Dripping Kitchen Faucet

Do year hear dripping sounds coming from your kitchen faucet? The fact is that one of the most common plumbing issues within any home involves a leaky and dripping kitchen faucet. Before you call on a professional plumber you should try fixing your dripping kitchen faucet on your own. Most of the dripping problems involving a kitchen faucet stem from a faulty O-ring that has become broken or worn over time. If you do not fix your dripping kitchen faucet, you might be paying a lot more on your monthly water bill than you need to. Why not try fixing it today by following these helpful tips?

What Tools Do You Need?

Before you get started, you should make sure that you have the right tools on hand to fix your dripping kitchen faucet. You will most likely need pliers, masking tape and a flathead screwdriver. You should begin by taking the aerator off of the faucet spout. You will be able to identify the aerator, because it is the last part of the spout that water flows through. Simply take your pliers and put masking tape around the jaws to ensure that you do not scrape or cause visible damage to your faucet. After you have placed the masking tape around the jaws of the pliers, you can then take hold of the aerator and twist it in a counterclockwise direction until it is thoroughly removed.

Remove the O-Ring

You will now start to remove the O-ring from the aerator. The O-ring is the rubber looking ring that is on the spout side of the aerator. Just use the screwdriver to get the O-ring loose. Make sure that you clean any buildup that exists by using a small wire brush that you have on hand. Sometimes putting the brush in vinegar beforehand will make it more effective in cleaning away buildup.

Final Steps

Now you can simply put a new O-ring in place by pressing it firmly. Reattach the aerator to the spout and then make sure that you tighten it securely. If it is not tight enough you will likely still have dripping. Once it is secure, you can check the kitchen faucet for dripping. You will likely notice that it is fixed right away. Whenever you experience dripping again, you can just follow these easy steps and fix your dripping kitchen faucet.
