Sliding screen doors are the perfect way to lead to a patio entrance. However, when you have sliding screen doors attached to your home, you might have to do a bit of maintenance from time to time. The fact is that no matter what type of sliding screen door you have attached to your home, you will no doubt have some type of issue arise.

Are You Handy?

The majority of problems that come from sliding screen doors involve it coming off track. If you use your sliding screen door with any regularity at all, you will need to know how to make this quick fix. No matter how handy you are around the house, fixing a sliding screen door that is off track should be no problem for you. Before you get started, make sure that you have a handheld vacuum, WD-40 and a mallet on hand to get the job done properly.

Clean First

Before you actually get your sliding screen door back on track, you must first clean away dust, dirt and debris. It is likely that buildup will occur over time and cleaning in this sliding door groove is not always easy. Try using a handheld vacuum to make cleaning the sliding door groove easier and more effective. Getting your sliding screen door back on track will be easier if the groove is successfully cleaned.

Lubricate the Door

After you have cleaned the groove of the sliding screen door, you can then use the WD-40 as a lubricant on the groove. Simply cleaning out the dirt or debris might not get your door back on track the right way, but WD-40 will help out. If you do not have any WD-40 on hand almost all types of oil will do the trick.

Are the Rollers Bent?

Sometimes getting your sliding screen door back on track is as easy as fixing the rollers. Rollers on your screen door tend to wear and bend over time. However, if you use a mallet to slightly bend it back into place, you can get it back on track effectively. Make sure that you only hammer lightly using the mallet, because hard hammering will cause extensive damage to the rollers. If you have a huge bend in the roller, it may be time for a replacement.
