How to Get Rid of Roaches

Protecting Your Home From Cockroaches

Cockroaches are the disgusting guest that never seems to want to leave. It is very easy to develop a cockroach infestation, and once you have them, it can be difficult to get rid of them. They carry and spread disease and you don’t want them in your home. Unfortunately, they are also one of the most common pests that invade human homes to benefit from the easy food and water sources. Here are some prevention tips if you would like to keep your home cockroach free, and some good ideas for how to eliminate an infestation if you already have a cockroach problem.

Cockroach Environment

The cockroaches need humidity levels that are high, temperatures that are warm, food and places to hide. All of these can be found in most homes. Even if you keep a very clean home, you still could develop a roach invasion. Even the tiniest little bits of food are feasts for cockroaches. One thing you can do is to eliminate any piles of things that could provide a good nest area, such as newspapers. Be sure to clean dishes promptly and clean your eating and food preparation surfaces frequently. Don’t give them any water. Be sure that you keep areas around houseplants dry.

Seal Cracks
Seal any cracks that you can see around your windows, foundation and walls. Cockroaches can enter your home through very small cracks, as little as 1/16th of an inch.

Add Stoppers Over Drains
You can keep stoppers over your drains to prevent them from entering through the drainage system of your home. Be sure that faucets have screens over the spouts to prevent roaches from climbing into the faucet.

Use Traps
Sticky traps can be helpful in any area where you’ve seen a cockroach. This can also help you to determine where they population may be nesting.

Hire a Professional

You can try all of the above tips and still have a problem with cockroaches. This is because cockroaches are one of the most difficult pest infestations to get rid of. Even if you’ve taken every precaution to prevent them from entering your home, it can be very hard to keep them out. You could be doing everything right and still continue to struggle with these tricky beasts. Luckily, hiring a professional means you’ll have someone on your side who knows all the best ways to keep these dirty bugs out of your home for good.
