How Much Does Roofing Cost
Roof Styles And Their Compared Costs
The roof of your home is probably one of the most important parts of your home. When replacing your roof there are a few choice to be made and I am not just talking about what color you think will look the best. Roofs come in many different materials, there are Shingles made of composed asphalt, shingles made of wood, tiles that are made of clay, and metal roofing sheets. They all cost a different price depending on what you pick so best place to start is which one falls in your budget range that you have.
Different Types of Roofing
Let us start with roofing styles. First roof style is the asphalt shingles. You can get asphalt composition shingles in either fiberglass or organic. The mix of the organic material used for the organic shingles are asphalt, paper, and ceramic materials. The fiberglass shingles are mats of glass fibers covered in asphalt and filler that is water proof. Fiberglass is more resistant to fire but tend to be more costly. The materials can range from $700 to $4,000 and depending on the installation required can range from $1,500 to $9,000.
Another style is wood shingles which is also known as shake. These tiles are cut straight from logs that are western red cedar and have a beautiful rich look. Some areas you will find wood tile that are cut from pine trees. The shingles are cut by a machine and the shakes are hand-cut from wooden blocks. Wood tiles only look better with age. The more weathered they look the more different colors that come out of each tile giving your house an amazing look. Wood tiles range anywhere from $7,000 to $15,000 based on roof size. If an old roof needs removed in this process it could cost anywhere from $1,500 to $9,000 on top of the previous price range.
You also have metal roofing style option. Large sheets made from stainless steel, galvanized steel, copper, aluminum, corrugated iron, or a mix of all types of metals. This roofing style is on the rise of popularity because of how cheap it can be compared to other roofing styles, how long it lasts, how durable it is, and how easy it is to install. This roofing option is $5,000 to $17,000 depending on roof size and material chosen. If your old roof needs removed then you need to add $500 to $1,000 on top of that cost.
Last option is the clay tiles. Clay tiles give home that classic Spanish style look. Most tiles are made from clay but you can also find them made from sand or concrete. Clay tile roofing can cost anywhere from $12,000 to $21,000 of course depending on roof size. If old roof needs removed you need to add anywhere from $500 to $1,000 to the total cost.
