Difference from Managing project and being a general contractor

My company has been managing several large renovation projects for a property management client and charging separately for it. My question is, is it okay to manage contractors work so long as we do not hire or pay the contractors directly? As opposed to acting as a General Contractor. We do not want to have the separate licensing and insurance that goes along with being a General Contractor.
