Does anything really change on the lease if it just lengthened?

I'm extending a tenant's lease. I'm not upping her rent or making any changes other than extending it 12 more months. Do we have to sign an entirely new lease or can I just add a note to the end saying that we're extending it to such and such date and that sort?

not a lawyer and wouldnt give legal advice but I am sure you can sign a one page addendum stating that all terms of original lease continue for the additional term and define the extended term. Form matters so it likely needs to be done right.
