How far back should I check on a potential tenant's former landlords? Is one back enough or should I do two o r three?

Having been in this business for 10 years now, I would verify previous landlords going back at least 3-5 years. If possible, check with the Magistrate courts in the county in which they have also resided in for potential eviction records. Those don't always come up on credit and background checks unless the previous landlord has sued them for damages or loss of rent and then reported it to the credit bureaus. Sadly, learned this the hard way. Good luck!
