New Carpet

have a townhouse with a fenced in back yard. We have always allowed people to have pets, but now it is time for new carpet. Should we continue to allow pets, should we increase the pet deposit or keep things as they are. (We have been charging a $250 non refundable pet deposit, not per pet but total)

I would suggest, if you prefer...

I would suggest, if you prefer to keep the deposit low, that you might limit the number of pets to one. That, or add at least something on for each extra pet that they bring in. Extra animals do cause extra damage, no matter how well behaved they are. Just something to think about.

If pets are a persistent issue...

If pets are a persistent issue, perhaps a laminate product makes more sense than carpet?
