An innovative real estate business model, or threat to the MLS?



There's a question circulating now: "What is real estate brokerage in two years, in five years?" This may be changing with the general lack of reaction to what is being referred to as "paper brokerages," that is, companies that don't include brokerage companies in what they provide to their customers, but instead access and display MLS listing data through multiple listing services.


Right now the debate seems to be if this new method follows the guidelines already set forward by The National Association of Realtors. If allowed to continue, it could do some real damage to the listings pipeline by working around the MLS system. If allowed to continue, it may open up a floodgate for other third parties to be allowed access to this data that they did not formerly have access to.
