As the weather grows colder, some residents of a Bronx apartment complex have found an unreliable heating system to be the latest complaint added to the others that have built up over time. Heat and hot water has been inconsistent in this six-floor, 88 unit apartment complex. Some people have been forced from their home because of it, including a mother of a three-month-old baby who had become worried over her children's health. She bundled the little one up the best she could, but her three-year-old was sick multiple times.
The complaints have been unanswered by the property managers. One tenant says she has been calling for months without receiving any answers from those that were supposed to keep the property habitable. Another tenant, Jay Lugo, says that he had requested a replacement for a glass door in the apartment, but was ignored. His nine-year-old son fell through the door and was required to receive 22 stitches.
It's become so unbearable that Senator Jeff Klein has stepped in. He has visited the property, spoken to the tenants, and has a meeting set up to speak with management.
