When buying a home anywhere, one should always check that the real estate professional has a license to sell, but California makes it fairly simple to check. They would have been required to take and pass at least three college-level real estate courses to become licensed and should always be able to produce a card with their license number on it for you. You may also look them up on the DRE website by their last name, or contact the DRE by phone to check and make sure they are exactly who they are. Make sure that the number they've provided is still valid, not expired or suspended, and always check the public comment section on the DRE website to make sure that nothing is there that would have otherwise turned you away from the individual. Lastly, you should always verify that the organization that they claim to be affiliated with is legitimate and that they do work for them.
