A Philadelphia landlord is being sued by the families of two former tenants. Twenty-two year old Albert Suh died when he and friends stepped out onto a fire escape that doubled as a balcony and it collapsed beneath them. The apartment was on the fourth story and the lawsuit alleges that it collapsed due to the landlord's negligence in performing routine maintenance and checking the security of the structure.
Suh's roommate, twenty-four year old Laura O'Brien, also fell when the fire escape collapsed and suffered a broken back and further injuries. A third roommate was also injured, but is not a part of the lawsuit.
