Residential damage from ice storm could hit $35 million

Last month's ice storm in Dallas, Texas has been hard on the insurance companies. With residential damage totaling somewhere between $30-$35 million, the price tag is just shy of what the insurance agencies would usually classify as catastrophic losses. Home owners called in to make claims in droves, with branches down and pipes having burst, once the ice melted it was easier to see the damage that was actually done to various homes across the metroplex. Three to four inches of ice built up over a two day span at the beginning of December, snapping tree branches to send them crashing down into roofs. The price tag mentioned doesn't even begin to cover the damage done to vehicles, as that is harder for to pull together calculations for.
