Landlords in San Francisco are fighting the Airbnb trend. Many of their properties are rent-stabilized and their tenants are making more off the property that they are renting than the owners are allowed to make. Frustration is high and evictions are being served. Some landlords are giving their tenants 72 hours to correct this violation of their lease, but others are claiming illegal activity and aren't waiting to start the eviction process at that point. Many of those that are given warnings, though, are out of town as they are subletting their homes and the eviction process may have begun by the time they get back.
Airbnb was not welcomed in New York either, with only one real loophole that has been found to use it. The company is looking at its options and may venture into other services such as traveling aids, home cleaning, and transportation to and from the airport.
