The Tenant Protection Unit in New York City has some landlords feeling uncomfortable. They've stepped outside the normal practices by conducting audits on the landlords, sometimes requiring paperwork from every property that they own. Though tenant advocacy groups love the organization that was created last year, landlords feel that they cannot win in the new processes. Even if they can win their case, the landlords are forced to spend money on legal fees and if word gets out, it can hurt their reputations, even if they are innocent of any wrong doing.


Landlords and owners say that the unit misuses subpoenas and that they violate the laws of due process. Some even go as far as to say that they feel intimidated by the organization.
