Tenants push to evict landlord

Tenants of a South Bronx apartment complex are not happy with the new owners, saying that the company that bought their eleven-unit building has not kept it up to standards. They gathered to protest this past Tuesday in hopes that it would urge Stabilis Capital into action. The company took over the building in June of this year when the previous owner was foreclosed on, and that is when the tenants claim all the trouble started, one tenant claiming that the conditions are 'worse than the projects'.
The residents, mostly either elderly or disabled, have complained of rodent infestation, broken boilers, frozen pipes, lead paint, and water leaks in excess. In October, a stairwell collapsed and injured two tenants.
Stabilis Capital has spent quite a bit of money on this property since taking it over, both on repairs and court cases. The count for open violations reaches up over 22, according to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the tenants are asking the owners to hand the building over to a city-approved administrator.
