To Figure Out Where Real Estate Is Headed, Start Driving





Real estate consulting firm Metrostudy gathers data from newly built and sometimes still-being-built communities to turn out predictions for the housing market. They look for good signs as well as bad. The good? Families moving in, lawns being taken care of, and welcome mats on the door. Bad signs? Empty houses. Many empty houses in a new development could mean that the builders overestimated the demand in the area and will be losing money on it.

The chief economic of Metrostudy, Brad hunter, analyses data from Boston to Miami, and they are obviously doing something right. They issued warnings of the housing bust as early as 2004 and were one of the first to see the beginnings of a turn around in 2009.
